These mixes are obviously going to change from day-to-day, mood-to-mood.... today wrought more of a mellow, somber mix for some reason.

I'm getting married soon, and picking the song list for that thing was interesting. You see, I am the only one in my family (and her's) with such a strong likeness towards music of all shapes and sizes. If I had my way about it then the damn wedding party would've been getting down to some live PGroove, but hey, love is a two-way street. :)

Alrighty, today's show of the day comes from the person with whom I wish would lay down their arms and rejoing the band of brothers so bad - Dickey Betts (and the "band of brothers" being the Allman Brothers Band naturally). This was actually an "Instant Live" and deservingly so. There is great playing throughout this show. Volume 3 of the series

This go 'round I selected a transition from jovial, upbeat music that transitions right into "yes, you are about to get fucked up" with the Country Joe song... into "Sky High", "Rollin", and the Warlocks (the group that would soon change its name... the name, Grateful Dead) jam, "Can't Come Down"........ I transitioned out of this into somber, sappy shit... ending with the GREAT cover by Radiohead of the Pink Floyed classic, "Wish You Were Here". It's mood music man. Word.

Alright, so basically Perpetual Groove's online system of delivering crispy ass soundboards was a huge failure. Most of the people who attempted to purchase them were unsuccessful in downloading the files. It was a big mess. And to top it all off, the company handling the downloading of the soundboards recently went belly-up (as stated in a previous post of mine on this blog).

So, I've said all along that these would not be posted. But fuck it, they aren't selling them at shows, they aren't selling them online, and these are the only true soundboards in existence. This band NEEDS to be heard. Perpetual Groove is great music. The lyrics are on point. The lyricist, Brock Butler, is a very talented vocalist and guitarist, and the other three guys each play their instruments like champions. I really, really enjoy this band, and I'd love for more people to jump on board. Here are several soundboards - each with its own mood, setlist, ambiance, etc...

Eat this shit up, cause there are maybe 100-250 of these guys floating around if I were a guessing man.

Alright, so this volume is a little bit more indicative of what I am capable of pushing out as far as randomness in my selections is concerned. This volume features a much more eclectic mix of sounds. I'm not sure how it will be pushed over into your computer after uncompressing the .rar file, but here is how I would prefer you arrange the tracks before you journey off into listen-land. Show a Day, volume 4

Again, today's Show of the Day is going to feature a tape that isn't a show at all, but rather, it is a tape that holds a special place in my heart and to my ears. This reggae compilation is amazing. The Chantells and Friends is a reggae tape that has the potential to make a non-reggae listener begin listening simply because of its awesome, nearly hyptnotic island sound. Each track on this album holds relevance, and I do not have a single track on this tape that I would consider to be "filler". No, no filler or fodder on this guy... just great, melodic, sweet sweet reggae music at its finest. This is how reggae was supposed to sound. And I bet you $5 that you've never heard a single track on this record (unless you happen to be a reggae afficiando - then the bet is off!).

I really hope you guys enjoy this. It's a wonderful collection of obscure roots reggae from the glory days of roots reggae. This is The Chantells and Friends: 1977-1979:

Show a Day, volume 3

So, for the Show a Day series today, I am going to stray away from the norm and post something outside of the "live" arena. I'm going to post a studio tape... a good studio tape at that, and I'd suffice it to say that this particular tape is probably one that most of you are unfamiliar with - though you might be familiar with some of the tracks. This cd is material by reggae legend, Barrington Levy. The neat part about this ablum is the inclusion of several different reggae artists (hence the album name, "Duets"). There are incredible versions of classic Barrington Levy tracks on this album, and it is one of my favorite reggae cds. I hope you all enjoy it too.

A Show a Day, Volume 2

So for this series of the "Show a Day" post, I'm going to post a super rare soundboard from my personal favorite band, Perpetual Groove. You see, Perpetual Groove only has 7 "official" soundboards in existence. One of those soundboard tapes was corrupt upon them posting it, so only a select few have that one (I can't recall the date at the moment). That leaves 6.. I have 5 of them.

The company that was put in charge of handling the processing and online ordering of these soundboards has sense went belly-up (Echo, a Ticketbastard subsidary). Because of this, Perpetual Groove has halted all official soundboards. It didn't help that the guy in charge of producing these soundboard (Huffer), the same person responsible for Perpetual Groove's intelligent lighting designing, took a lucrative offer from the moe. camp and is no longer running soundboard feeds. *whew* that was a lot. Anyways, here's my "Show of the Day" brought to you in part by my good friends, Perpetual Groove.

So here it is folks. This is it.. the pinnacle to all things music.. the epitome of everything your ears have ever wanted to hear.. the mecca of sound.. this. is. the. PICKS FROM THE FAN SERIES! All jokes aside, this is the first of what I hope to be many more volumes of my own collection of music. This was just thrown together in about 5 minutes with absolutely zero rhyme or reason, but it's volume one, and honestly, with me, you couldn't or shouldn't expect much more than utter complacency and laziness. :)



This track listing may seem super random.. I actually hope that it does compel you in that way. I also know that it is somewhat "meh" in some spots.. I was actually just clearing out what was listener-worthy from a seldom used file on my computer. The proceeding volumes will be much more thought out and ear provoking. I'll label them as the mood seems fit as well. That said, this is still just "volume 1".

the "A Show a Day" series... this will be Volume 1

So, Volume 1 of the "ever popular" (lol) A Show a Day series.

This time around I'm going to start things off with my all time favorite Grateful Dead show. Now, don't get the misconception that I am some cruncy hippy that only listens to the Dead, Phish, and Panic. I listen to those three bands sometimes, yes, but I will show you over time that my musical likenesses aren't limited to psychedellic rock (though I love me some psychedellia in all shapes and sizes).

Anyways, this show is the Dead's first ever performance at the Avalon Ballroom. It features a young Grateful Dead.... so young that they were only 6 months removed from their former name, "The Warlocks". This era of the dead, the "Pigpen Era" as I've heard it called, was so much more bluesy. It only leaves one to ponder on the thought of where the Dead's music would/could have gone had Pigpen not passed away. One can only wonder. Regardless, this beautiful piece of nostalgia deserves to be heard by all. It's a great recording for the time, and it truly is my favorite all around Grateful Dead show. Sure, there are other shows with standout songs that can't be denied, but the raw, untapped energy of a young Grateful Dead is spot the fuck on. Seriously.

Hello everyone

Well, here I am. I'm a blogger now I guess. lol :)

I really just want to start sharing my music with everyone in a more concise, organized manner. I enjoy sharing new sounds with new and old friends. I know how excited I get when I hear something new and it gives me those crazy, little goosebumps and shit... good stuff.

Anyways, over the coming weeks and months I will post original works by me.. be it mixtapes, mashups, collections, or my series that I am very excited to start producing: "Picks from the Fan, a Selection of Randomness by Jambandfan.". I hope to produce several volumes of these. It's my foot in the door.. you heard it here first! lol

Seriously though, I'll post vintage material, my own material, hard-to-find material, and crispy ass soundboards of any genre you could think of.
