i label this one "afrobeat v1.0" simply because i know i will post more afrobeat. i love afrobeat/afro-fun/and any afro-funk-fusion sounds (except for toubab krewe... i have a serious love/hate relationship with that band... meaning, i've loved one show out of 6 i've seen from them [i hated the other 5]).
i've shared some Kokolo with everybody on older posts back on jambase... i'll go a different route with this one. Kokolo.. Ray Lugo rather.. is an old friend, and i love giving props to his music whenever i get a chance, so if you are reading this and are unfamiliar with Kokolo - get in touch and i'll hook you up with some music.
this time i am going to go old school and post some music from the late-great FELA KUTI. the man, the music.
here is Fela Kuti and his album (which, may i remind you, these were being released as 45s back in the 70s, and were typically only one song per side, so most Fela albums are very short as far as track listing, but the songs are like 20+ minutes each) "Opposite People". definitely do yourself a favor and download this.... this is AFROBEAT.

a little Jacob Miller reggae action....
moving on from the bubbly dubbly dub to the roots reggae that defined dub reggae...
i give you Jacob Miller and his album "Jacob Killer Miller"... you see, Jacob Miller gets next to no love from mainstream media and fairweather reggae fans. Jacob Miller is as roots as they get. He was born "inna di yard" (in the ghetto/slums), and through his lyrics it is easy to see that his basic life philosophies were so heavily steeped in that background. This is REGGAE... serious, serious Roots Reggae.

roots, rock, REGGAE!
let's get it started with some old-school dub and roots reggae...
i'll begin with one of the founding fathers of dub music. augustus pablo. this is an early album, 1973 to be exact. there are great splashes of psychedellia in here, but even better are the splashes of dubby goodness that precipitates so smoothly off the roots reggae to which the dubs were formed.
Augustus Pablo - Rebel Rock Reggae, This is Augustus Pablo
01 - dub organizer
02 - please sunrise
03 - point blank
04 - arabian rock
05 - pretty baby
06 - pablo in dub
08 - dread eye
09 - too late
10 - assignment no. 1
11 - jah rock
12 - lover's mood
13 - java original
14 - guiding red

I'm back!
well, i'm back boys and girls.....
a married man. a wiser man (lol). a damn-near-rabid-music-fanatic-missing-the-shit-out-live-music-shows-festivals-WTF!!! man.
i've been away so long, i don't even know where to begin.
let's try some reggae first. then a little world music. then i'll end today with some Pick's from the Fan madness. i might even drop a little dubstep magic if i find the time this afternoon. but regardless, tune in again, cause i'll be updating this at least on a weekly basis again.

Picks from the Fan, volume 4
These mixes are obviously going to change from day-to-day, mood-to-mood.... today wrought more of a mellow, somber mix for some reason.
I'm getting married soon, and picking the song list for that thing was interesting. You see, I am the only one in my family (and her's) with such a strong likeness towards music of all shapes and sizes. If I had my way about it then the damn wedding party would've been getting down to some live PGroove, but hey, love is a two-way street. :)
Anyways, I'll post the wedding mix soon as I feel it share-worthy.
Again, the track listing is sure to come out wrong once you unzip these files, but this is the track listing that I'd like for you to lay this out as if you decide to burn it to a disc:
